Nexium injection is used as a gastric antisecretory treatment when a patient cannot take the medication orally.
More specifically, Nexium for injection and infusion is indicated for the following conditions when oral administration is not feasible:
- Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD): Used in patients with esophagitis and/or severe symptoms of reflux. This helps to reduce stomach acid and alleviate symptoms.
- Healing of Gastric Ulcers Associated with NSAID Therapy: Nexium injection can aid in the healing process of gastric ulcers caused by the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
- Prevention of Gastric and Duodenal Ulcers Associated with NSAID Therapy: It can also be used to prevent the formation of these ulcers in patients at risk while they continue to take NSAIDs.
In essence, Nexium injection provides the same acid-reducing benefits as the oral form, but it's delivered intravenously for patients who are unable to swallow or absorb oral medications.
