The original name of pharmacy was apothecary.
Based on historical evidence, the earliest known practice of running what we now call a pharmacy was in Babylon, a state within Mesopotamia. At that time, the establishment was referred to as an apothecary. The treatment of a sick person involved a team of individuals, including a priest, a physician, and an apothecary (pharmacist), to address their needs. The term "apothecary" essentially represents the historical precursor to the modern-day pharmacy.
