How do I put an image on top of an image in Photopea?

Here's how you can overlay one image on top of another in Photopea:

  1. Open Your Images: Launch Photopea (https://www.photopea.com/) and open both images you want to combine. Go to File > Open and select the images.

  2. Move One Image to the Other: Decide which image will be the base (bottom) and which will be the overlay (top). Select the Move Tool (V). Click and drag the layer of the image you want to put on top from its tab into the tab of the base image. This will copy the top image as a new layer into the base image.

  3. Adjust the Top Layer:

    • Position: Use the Move Tool (V) to reposition the top image as desired.
    • Size: Go to Edit > Free Transform (or press Ctrl+Alt+T) to resize the top image. Hold Shift while dragging a corner to maintain the aspect ratio. Press Enter to apply the transformation.
    • Opacity: Adjust the opacity of the top layer to make it partially transparent. You can find the Opacity setting in the Layers panel (usually on the right side). Lowering the opacity will allow the bottom image to show through.
  4. Blending Modes (Optional): Experiment with blending modes for creative effects. In the Layers panel, next to the Opacity setting, you'll find a dropdown menu labeled "Normal." Click this to access various blending modes like Multiply, Screen, Overlay, etc. Each blending mode interacts with the colors of the layers differently.

  5. Layer Masks (Optional): Use a layer mask to selectively hide portions of the top image.

    • Select the top layer.
    • Click the "Add Layer Mask" button at the bottom of the Layers panel (it looks like a rectangle with a circle inside).
    • Select the Brush Tool (B). Make sure your foreground color is black. Paint on the layer mask to hide portions of the top image. Painting with white will reveal the image again.
  6. Save Your Work: Once you're satisfied, save your combined image. Go to File > Export As and choose your desired file format (JPEG, PNG, etc.). JPEG is generally good for photographs, while PNG is better for images with transparency.
