In Photoshop Elements, you can remove objects from a photo primarily using dedicated tools designed for content removal and retouching.
Steps to Remove Objects
Based on the tools available, you can use the Remove Object feature or the Clone Stamp Tool to achieve this.
Using the Remove Object Feature
A direct method is to utilize the Remove Object function.
- Select the object: First, you need to select the specific object or area you wish to remove from your photo.
- Apply Remove Object: Once the object is selected, select Remove Object to remove the selected object in your photo. This tool attempts to intelligently fill the selected area based on the surrounding content.
Using the Clone Stamp Tool for Fine-Tuning
For more control, especially for larger areas or if the initial removal isn't perfect, the Clone Stamp Tool is useful for fine-tuning.
- Select the tool: To fine-tune your result, select Clone Stamp Tool to edit a large area.
- Define the source: Choose an area in the photo that you want to use to cover the object. This is your "source" area.
- Clone the source: To select this source, hover over the part of the photo you want to cover the object with and press Alt+click (Windows)/Option+click (macOS). This tells the tool which pixels to copy.
- Paint over the object: Then, paint over the object you want to remove. The Clone Stamp Tool will copy the pixels from your chosen source area and paste them onto the area you are painting, effectively covering the unwanted object with surrounding texture or detail.
Using a combination of these tools allows you to effectively remove distracting elements and clean up your images in Photoshop Elements.
