How to manage photos on PC?

Published in Photo Management 2 mins read

Managing photos on a PC often involves organizing, storing, and accessing your picture collection efficiently, which can be done using various methods, including built-in applications like the Photos app.

Organizing Photos Using the Photos App

A common way to manage your growing collection of digital images on a PC is by utilizing photo management software, such as the standard Photos app available on many Windows systems. This application provides tools to sort and categorize your pictures, making them easier to find and enjoy.

Creating and Adding Photos to Folders

The Photos app allows you to create custom folders to organize your pictures and videos. Here are the steps to create folders and add your media within the application:

  1. Open the Photos app and select the Folders tab on the left sidebar. This section displays your current photo folders.
  2. Select Add a folder and choose the desired folder name for your new category. Giving folders descriptive names (e.g., "Summer Vacation 2023," "Family Events") helps with organization.
  3. Once the new folder is created within the app, you can populate it. Drag and drop photos or videos directly from your collection view into the new folder displayed in the sidebar. Alternatively, you can click on the Add photos button within the new folder view to browse your computer and select the media you wish to add.

By using folders, you can keep related photos and videos grouped together, making your digital library much more manageable. This structured approach is fundamental to effective photo management on your personal computer.
