To change the image content of a layer in Photopea, you'll essentially need to replace the existing image with a new one. Here's how you can do it:
-
Select the Layer: In the Layers panel (usually located on the right side of the Photopea interface), click on the layer you want to modify. This makes it the active layer.
-
Open Your New Image: Open the new image you want to use as a replacement. You can do this by going to File > Open and selecting the image from your computer.
-
Copy the New Image: Select all of the new image by going to Select > All (or pressing Ctrl+A or Cmd+A). Then, copy the image by going to Edit > Copy (or pressing Ctrl+C or Cmd+C).
-
Paste the New Image: Return to your original Photopea document. With your target layer still selected, go to Edit > Paste (or press Ctrl+V or Cmd+V). This will paste the new image as a new layer above your currently selected layer.
-
Rasterize if needed: If the old layer is a Smart Object (indicated by a small icon in the layer thumbnail in the Layers Panel), you may need to rasterize it before you can directly modify it. Right-click the layer in the Layers Panel and choose "Rasterize". If the image isn't a Smart Object, skip this step.
-
Delete or Hide the Old Image:
-
To Replace Completely: If you want to completely replace the original image, delete the old layer (or the rasterized version of it if you rasterized it in the previous step). You can delete it by selecting it in the Layers panel and pressing the Delete key, or by dragging it to the trash can icon at the bottom of the Layers panel. Then move the new pasted image layer below any other layers that may be on top of it.
-
To Blend Images: If you want to blend the old and new images, you can adjust the opacity of the new layer, use blending modes (available in the Layers panel), or use layer masks to selectively reveal or hide parts of each layer.
-
-
Transform and Adjust: You may need to resize, reposition, or otherwise transform the pasted image to fit your needs. Use Edit > Transform > Scale, Rotate, Skew, Distort, Perspective, or Warp to adjust the image. You can also use the Move tool (V) to reposition the image.
In Summary: The process generally involves opening your new image, copying it, pasting it into your existing Photopea document as a new layer, and then managing the layers (deleting the old one, blending, transforming) to achieve the desired result.
