You can rotate the view in Photopea using the Rotate View tool. However, to rotate and resize the content of your image or layers, you'll use the Transform controls. Here's a breakdown:
Rotating the View (Not the Content)
- Select the Rotate View tool: This tool allows you to rotate the canvas for easier editing, especially for angled lines or details.
- Click and drag: Click and drag on the canvas to rotate the view around the center.
- Reset: Click the "Reset" button at the top of the Photopea interface to return the view to its default 0° rotation.
- Zooming and Scrolling: Use the mouse wheel to zoom in and out. Hold Ctrl while using the mouse wheel to scroll horizontally.
Rotating and Resizing Image Content (Layers or the Entire Image)
To actually rotate and resize the contents of your image, like a layer or the entire image itself:
- Select the Layer: In the Layers panel, select the layer you want to rotate or resize. If you want to transform the entire image, make sure you're on the correct layer, or consider flattening the image (Layer > Flatten Image) before proceeding.
- Activate Free Transform: Go to Edit > Free Transform. A bounding box with handles will appear around the selected layer.
- Rotate: Move your cursor slightly outside of one of the corner handles. The cursor will change to a curved arrow. Click and drag to rotate the layer.
- Resize: Click and drag one of the corner handles to resize the layer. Hold Shift while dragging to maintain the layer's aspect ratio.
- Commit the Transformation: Press Enter or click the checkmark at the top of the screen to apply the changes. To cancel the transformation, press Esc or click the 'X' at the top.
Example:
Let's say you have a photo of a building that's slightly tilted.
- Open the photo in Photopea.
- Go to Edit > Free Transform.
- Move your cursor outside a corner handle until it becomes a curved arrow.
- Slightly rotate the image until the building appears straight.
- Press Enter to apply the rotation.
Summary:
Photopea provides the Rotate View tool to change your perspective on the canvas, and the Free Transform tool (Edit > Free Transform) to rotate and resize the actual content of your image layers.
