How do you add a drop shadow in Photopea?

Published in Photopea Tutorials 2 mins read

To add a drop shadow in Photopea, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Layers panel. This is usually located on the right side of the Photopea interface.

  2. Select the layer to which you want to add the drop shadow.

  3. Click the "fx" button at the bottom of the Layers panel. This button represents "Add Layer Style".

  4. From the dropdown menu that appears, choose "Drop Shadow".

  5. The Layer Style panel will open. Here, you can adjust various settings to customize the drop shadow to your liking. Common settings include:

    • Blend Mode: Determines how the shadow interacts with the underlying layers.
    • Color: The color of the drop shadow.
    • Opacity: The transparency of the drop shadow. A lower opacity makes the shadow more subtle.
    • Angle: The direction of the light source casting the shadow.
    • Distance: How far the shadow is offset from the object.
    • Spread: How much the shadow is enlarged.
    • Size: The blurriness of the shadow. A larger size creates a softer, more diffused shadow.
  6. Adjust the settings in the Layer Style panel until you achieve the desired look. You can see a real-time preview of the drop shadow on your image as you adjust the settings.

  7. Once you're satisfied with the settings, click "OK" to apply the drop shadow to the selected layer.

That's it! Your layer now has a drop shadow. You can always double-click the "Drop Shadow" effect in the Layers panel to re-open the Layer Style panel and adjust the settings later.
