You can add an artboard in Photoshop when creating a new document or by adding one to an existing document. Here's how:
1. When Creating a New Document:
- Click Create New... at the top left of the Photoshop welcome screen.
- In the Preset Details panel (usually on the right side), specify your desired width and height for the artboard.
- Enable the Artboards checkbox.
- Set Resolution (typically 72 for web or 300 for print).
- Set Color Mode to RGB Color.
- Click Create.
2. Adding an Artboard to an Existing Document:
- Select the Artboard tool from the Tools panel (it's grouped with the Move tool; click and hold on the Move tool to find it).
- In the Options bar at the top, you have several choices:
- New Artboard: Click this and then click and drag on your canvas to draw a new artboard of a custom size.
- From Layer or Layer Group: Right-click a layer or a layer group in the Layers panel and select "Artboard from Group" or "Artboard from Layers". This will create an artboard that encompasses the selected content.
- Preset Sizes: The Options bar also often displays preset sizes (e.g., iPhone, iPad, web). Click one to create an artboard with those dimensions.
- Another method: Go to Layer > New > Artboard. This creates a new, blank artboard.
3. Duplicating an Existing Artboard:
- Select the Artboard Tool.
- Select the Artboard you want to duplicate.
- Hold down the Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac) key, click on the artboard and drag to create a copy.
Tips:
- You can rename artboards in the Layers panel by double-clicking on the artboard name.
- Use the Artboard tool to resize or reposition artboards.
- You can have multiple artboards in a single Photoshop document, which is useful for designing different screens for a website or app, or for creating multiple variations of a design.
