How Do I Rearrange Artboards in Photoshop?

Published in Photoshop Artboards 2 mins read

Rearranging artboards in Photoshop is straightforward. You can easily move them individually or as a group.

Moving Individual Artboards

To move a single artboard:

  1. Select the Artboard: Click on the artboard you wish to move directly in the Photoshop document window. You'll see handles appear around its edges, confirming your selection.

  2. Drag and Drop: Click and hold your mouse button down on the selected artboard. Drag it to your desired location within the document window. Photoshop will automatically reposition the artboard as you drag.

Moving Multiple Artboards

For more efficient rearranging, move multiple artboards simultaneously:

  1. Select Multiple Artboards: Use one of the following methods to select your artboards:

    • Shift-Click: Click on the first artboard, then hold down the Shift key while clicking on subsequent artboards. This selects all artboards between your first and last clicks in the sequence.
    • Layer Panel: Select all the desired artboards from the Layers panel. This method allows selection irrespective of their positions within the document window.
  2. Drag and Drop (Group Move): Click and hold your mouse on any of the selected artboards. Drag the group to its new position. All selected artboards will move together.

Additional Tips and Considerations

  • Artboard Tool: The Artboard tool (Shift+V) can make selecting and moving artboards easier.
  • Layers Panel: The Layers Panel is a powerful tool to manage artboards, layers, and selection. You can rename and rearrange artboards directly within the Layers panel to reflect the desired order.
  • Rearrange All Artboards (Not Directly Available): While some Adobe software (like Illustrator) offer "Rearrange All Artboards" features, a direct equivalent isn't present in Photoshop's standard interface. The above methods efficiently replicate the same functionality.

By following these steps, you can efficiently manage and rearrange your artboards in Photoshop for optimal workflow.
