How to Crop Many Images at Once in Photoshop?

Published in Photoshop Batch Processing 3 mins read

To crop multiple images at once in Photoshop, you can use the Action and Batch processing features. This allows you to record a cropping action and then apply it to a folder of images.

Steps to Batch Crop Images in Photoshop:

  1. Open an Image: Open one of the images you want to crop in Photoshop. This image will be used to record the cropping action.

  2. Open the Actions Panel: Go to Window > Actions to open the Actions panel.

  3. Create a New Action Set (Optional): If you want to keep your cropping action organized, create a new action set by clicking the folder icon at the bottom of the Actions panel. Name it something descriptive, like "Batch Cropping."

  4. Create a New Action: Click the "Create new action" icon (it looks like a page with a folded corner) at the bottom of the Actions panel. Give your action a descriptive name, such as "Crop Action." Choose the action set you created (or "Default Actions" if you didn't create one). Click Record. Photoshop will now record every step you take.

  5. Crop the Image: Select the Crop Tool (C). Crop the image to your desired dimensions. Press Enter or click the checkmark in the options bar to commit the crop.

  6. Stop Recording: In the Actions panel, click the "Stop recording" button (the square icon).

  7. Batch Process: Go to File > Automate > Batch.

  8. Configure the Batch Process:

    • Set: Choose the action set where you saved your cropping action.
    • Action: Choose the cropping action you recorded (e.g., "Crop Action").
    • Source: Select the folder containing the images you want to crop. Choose "Folder".
    • Destination: Choose where you want to save the cropped images. You can save them in a new folder or overwrite the original files (not recommended). It is best practice to choose "Folder" and create a new folder for the cropped images.
    • File Naming (Optional): Customize the file naming options if you want to rename the cropped images.
  9. Run the Batch: Click OK to start the batch process. Photoshop will automatically open each image in the source folder, apply the cropping action, and save the cropped image to the specified destination.

  10. Finalize: Once the process is complete, click the stop button to finalize.

By following these steps, you can efficiently crop a large number of images with consistent dimensions and proportions in Photoshop.
