How do I select a color outside in Photoshop?

Published in Photoshop Color Selection 1 min read

To select a color outside of the Photoshop window, use the eyedropper tool.

Here's how it's done, according to the provided reference:

  • Activate the Eyedropper Tool: Select the eyedropper tool in Photoshop.
  • Click and Drag: Click on the color you want to sample, within your Photoshop document.
  • Move Outside the Window: While still holding down the mouse button, drag the eyedropper cursor outside of the Photoshop application window.
  • Sample the Color: As you move the cursor over different colors on your screen, you will see the color changing.
  • Release to Select: Once you have the desired color, release the mouse button. Photoshop will now have that color as your active foreground color.

In essence, the eyedropper tool in Photoshop isn't restricted to sampling colors only within the application's canvas. By dragging the eyedropper outside of the window, you can sample any color visible on your screen.
