How do I group all visible layers in Photoshop?

Published in Photoshop Layers 2 mins read

To group all visible layers in Photoshop, you first need to make sure only the layers you want to group are visible. Then, select those visible layers and group them. Here's a breakdown of the steps:

Steps to Group Visible Layers:

  1. Ensure Visibility: Hide any layers you don't want included in the group by clicking the eye icon next to their names in the Layers panel. Only the layers you want in the group should have the eye icon visible.

  2. Select the Visible Layers: There are a few ways to select multiple layers:

    • Sequential Selection: Click on the first visible layer you want to include. Then, hold down the Shift key and click on the last visible layer you want to include. This will select all the visible layers between the first and last clicks, inclusive.

    • Individual Selection: Hold down the Command (Mac) or Control (Windows) key and click on each visible layer you want to include in the group. This allows you to select non-contiguous layers.

  3. Group the Layers: Once you've selected all the visible layers you want to group, you can group them in one of the following ways:

    • Using the Menu: Go to Layer > Group Layers.
    • Using the Keyboard Shortcut: Press Command+G (Mac) or Control+G (Windows).
    • Using the Folder Icon: Click on the folder icon at the bottom of the Layers panel. This will create a new group containing your selected layers. If you had no layers selected, a blank group is created instead.

After grouping, all selected visible layers will be contained within a new group in the Layers panel. You can then name the group by double-clicking on its name and typing a new name. This allows you to easily manage and organize your layers.
