How Do I Transfer a Layer to Another Project in Photoshop?

Published in Photoshop Layers 1 min read

You can transfer a layer to another open project in Photoshop by dragging the layer from the Layers panel of one document to the artboard of another.

Here's a breakdown of the process:

  1. Open Both Documents: Ensure both the source Photoshop document (the one containing the layer you want to move) and the destination Photoshop document are open in Photoshop.
  2. Select the Layer: In the source document, locate the layer you want to move within the Layers panel. Click on it to select it.
  3. Drag and Drop: Click and hold on the selected layer in the Layers panel. Drag your mouse cursor onto the artboard of the destination document. Release the mouse button to drop the layer.
  4. Position and Adjust (if needed): The layer will now be present in the destination document. You can use the Move tool (V) to reposition it within the new project. You may also need to adjust its size or other properties.

That's it! The layer is now transferred to the other Photoshop project.
