How Do I Rearrange My Panels in Photoshop?
Rearranging panels in Photoshop is straightforward. You can easily move individual panels, group panels together, or undock them from the main workspace.
To move a single panel to a different location within the Photoshop workspace:
- Locate the panel: Find the panel you want to move. Its tab will be visible at the top.
- Drag the panel tab: Click and hold the tab of the panel you wish to move.
- Drag to the new location: Drag the panel to its desired location. You can dock it to another panel, to the side of the workspace, or even create a completely independent floating panel. Photoshop will provide visual cues (highlighted areas) to indicate possible docking locations.
Grouping and Ungrouping Panels
You can group multiple panels together for better organization:
- Grouping: Simply drag the tab of one panel onto the tab of another panel to group them. They'll be visually grouped together.
- Ungrouping: To separate a panel from a group, drag its tab outside the group's boundaries.
Docking and Undocking Panels
- Docking: Docking refers to attaching panels to the edge of the workspace or to other panels. When you drag a panel and align it with the edge of another panel, a visual indicator appears to help you dock.
- Undocking: To undock a panel, drag it away from the docked position. This will create a floating panel window.
Resolving Common Issues
-
Locked Workspace: If your panels are immovable, check if the "Lock Workspace" option is enabled. Disabling this will allow you to move panels freely. This is mentioned in several Adobe community posts regarding this issue. (https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-bugs/p-can-t-move-panels-lock-workspace-enabled/idi-p/13316510)
