To add an image to a pattern in Photoshop, you can define the image as a pattern and then apply it to a layer. Here's how:
-
Open your image: Open the image you want to use as a pattern in Photoshop.
-
Define the pattern: Go to
Edit > Define Pattern
. Give your pattern a name and clickOK
. -
Create a new layer (optional): Create a new layer where you want to apply the pattern. This keeps your pattern separate from your original image.
-
Apply the pattern: There are several ways to apply your pattern:
- Pattern Fill Layer: Go to
Layer > New Fill Layer > Pattern
. In the dialog box, select your newly defined pattern from the pattern dropdown. You can adjust the scale and other options here. This is a non-destructive method. - Pattern Overlay Layer Style: Select the layer you want to fill. Go to
Layer > Layer Style > Pattern Overlay
. In the Layer Style dialog, select your pattern and adjust the blending mode, opacity, and scale. - Fill Command: Select the area or layer you want to fill. Go to
Edit > Fill
. In the Fill dialog, choosePattern
from the "Contents" dropdown and select your pattern from the "Custom Pattern" selection. This directly fills the selected area, and may not be as flexible as the Pattern Fill Layer or Layer Style methods.
- Pattern Fill Layer: Go to
-
Adjust the pattern (optional): Depending on the method you used to apply the pattern, you can adjust the scale, blending mode, and opacity of the pattern to achieve your desired effect. For Pattern Fill layers, you can double click on the Pattern Fill Layer in the layers panel to adjust its properties. For Pattern Overlay Layer styles, you can adjust the properties within the Layer Style window.
