You can add trim, also known as a border or stroke, to text in Photoshop through the Layer Styles options.

Adding a Stroke to Text

Here's a breakdown of how to add a stroke to your text layer:

  • Right-click Method:
    1. Right-click on the text layer in the Layers panel.
    2. Select Blending Options from the menu.
  • Menu Method:
    1. Go to Layer in the top menu bar.
    2. Select Layer Style.
    3. Choose Stroke from the submenu.

Regardless of which method you choose, a Layer Style dialog box will appear.

  • Select Stroke: In the Layer Style dialog box, select the Stroke option in the list of styles on the left.
  • Customize Your Stroke: Here, you can adjust various settings:
    • Size: This sets the thickness of the border or trim.
    • Position: Select whether the stroke is inside, outside, or centered on the text.
    • Blend Mode: Modify the blending of the stroke with underlying layers.
    • Color: Choose the color of the stroke/trim.
    • Opacity: Adjust the transparency of the stroke.
    • Fill Type: (Color, Gradient, Pattern). Select the type of fill for the stroke
  • Click OK: After adjusting the settings to your liking, click OK to apply the stroke.

You can use these options to add a simple trim to your text to make it stand out.
