How do I hide and UnHide tools in Photoshop?

Published in Photoshop Tools 2 mins read

To hide and unhide tools in Photoshop, you'll primarily be working within the toolbar. Here's how:

Hiding Tools (Within Groups):

  1. Tools Groups: Photoshop groups related tools together (e.g., various brush types, selection tools, etc.). Often, you'll only see one tool from a group displayed in the toolbar.

  2. Accessing Hidden Tools: To reveal the other tools hidden within a group:

    • Click and Hold: Click and hold your mouse button down on the visible tool icon in the toolbar. A flyout menu will appear, displaying all the tools within that group.

    • Right-Click (Windows) or Ctrl+Click (macOS): Alternatively, you can right-click (Windows) or Ctrl+click (macOS) on the visible tool icon to open the same flyout menu.

  3. Selecting a Hidden Tool: Once the flyout menu is open, simply click on the tool you want to use. This will then become the visible tool in the toolbar.

Example:

If you see the Brush tool displayed, clicking and holding (or right/Ctrl-clicking) on it will reveal other tools like the Pencil tool, Color Replacement tool, and Mixer Brush tool.

Customizing the Toolbar (More Advanced Hiding/Unhiding):

While the above describes hiding tools within groups, you can also customize which tools are visible in the toolbar by completely hiding or unhiding them through the Edit Toolbar option. This allows you to streamline your workspace by removing tools you rarely use.
