How do I change the shape of a type in Photoshop?

To change the shape of type in Photoshop, you'll primarily use the Direct Selection tool after converting the type layer into a shape. Here's how:

  1. Convert the Type Layer to a Shape: In the Layers panel, right-click on the type layer and select "Convert to Shape". This transforms the text into a vector shape, allowing for modification of its individual points and curves.

  2. Select the Direct Selection Tool: This tool (the white arrow) allows you to select individual anchor points on the shape. It's different from the regular Selection Tool (the black arrow), which selects the entire layer.

  3. Modify Anchor Points: Click on the shape with the Direct Selection Tool. You'll see the anchor points. Click on a specific anchor point to select it. You can then drag it to a new location, altering the shape of the letter.

  4. Adjust Curves and Handles: When you select an anchor point, you may also see handles extending from it. These handles control the curvature of the lines connected to that point. Dragging these handles will adjust the curves of the shape.

  5. Add or Delete Anchor Points (Optional): You can use the Pen tool (or its variants like Add Anchor Point Tool and Delete Anchor Point Tool) to add or remove anchor points, which provides even greater control over the shape's form. Access these by clicking and holding down the Pen Tool icon in the toolbar.

  6. Combine with other shapes: Because the type is now a vector shape, you can combine it with other shapes using pathfinder operations to further refine the design.

Remember to undo (Ctrl+Z on Windows or Cmd+Z on Mac) if you make a mistake and want to revert to the previous state.
