What Does 5g Force Feel Like?

Published in Physics & Health 2 mins read

Experiencing 5g force feels like an immense pressure, quickly leading to oxygen starvation and likely a blackout.

The human body isn't built to withstand such extreme acceleration. At 5g, you're experiencing five times the force of gravity. This has several immediate effects:

  • Blood Flow Disruption: Your heart struggles to pump blood to your brain against the increased gravitational pull. This leads to cerebral hypoxia (oxygen deprivation in the brain).
  • Vision Problems: Graying out, where your vision narrows, is a common initial symptom.
  • Blackout: Within a few seconds, the lack of oxygen to the brain causes a loss of consciousness. This is known as G-LOC (G-force induced Loss Of Consciousness).

Negative g-force (where the force pushes blood towards the head) is arguably even more dangerous and can cause redout, where blood vessels in the eyes burst.

G-Force Likely Experience
1g Normal Earth gravity
3g-4g Significant pressure; difficulty moving limbs; vision changes
5g Blackout (G-LOC) within seconds

Essentially, 5g feels like an overwhelming pressure combined with a rapid loss of vision and consciousness due to the heart's inability to circulate blood effectively. It is a dangerous situation requiring specialized training and equipment to manage.
