How Does Friction Cause Thermal Energy?

Friction generates thermal energy (heat) by converting the kinetic energy of moving objects into heat.

The Mechanism of Friction and Heat Generation

When two surfaces slide or try to slide past each other, a force known as friction opposes this motion.
