What is Physiological Death?

Published in Physiology & Death 1 min read

Physiological death is the irreversible loss of function in vital organs, resulting in the cessation of life. This specifically involves either:

  • Irreversible loss of circulatory and respiratory functions, or
  • Irreversible loss of all functions of the entire brain, including the brain stem.

In essence, physiological death signifies that the body's critical systems have failed to the point where they cannot sustain life, and recovery is impossible. This is the point at which life ceases.
