How does rain water fall on poor leaves?

Published in Plant Biology 1 min read

Rainwater falls on "poor leaves" drop by drop. These leaves are termed "poor" because they only receive water that drips from the leaves above them.

According to the reference (Q. 7), the definition of 'poor leaves' refers to leaves that are situated lower in the canopy and therefore only receive rainwater that has already dripped from the leaves above. This is in contrast to the top leaves that get direct rainfall. The way rainwater reaches these lower leaves is characterized by individual drops.
