What is Broccoli Disease?

Broccoli disease refers to various diseases that can affect broccoli plants, with Sclerotinia stem rot (also known as White mold) being a notable example.

Sclerotinia Stem Rot (White Mold)

  • Causal Agent: Sclerotinia sclerotiorum

  • Favorable Conditions: Cool, moist environments significantly increase the risk of infection.

  • Symptoms:

    • Infected stems develop white to grayish lesions.
    • Hard, black sclerotia (survival structures of the fungus) develop inside the infected stems.
    • In wet conditions, sclerotia may also appear on the outside of the stems.
