What is PPA plastic?

Published in Plastics Chemistry 1 min read

PPA plastic, or Polyphthalamide, is a high-performance, semicrystalline, aromatic polyamide belonging to the nylon family.

Essentially, PPA plastics offer enhanced properties compared to more common nylons like Nylon 6/6. These improvements include:

  • Higher Strength and Stiffness: PPA exhibits greater mechanical strength and rigidity, making it suitable for demanding applications.
  • Reduced Moisture Sensitivity: PPA absorbs less moisture than standard nylons, leading to more stable dimensions and properties in humid environments.
  • Improved Thermal Resistance: PPA can withstand higher temperatures without significant degradation, expanding its usability in elevated temperature settings.

In short, think of PPA as a "super nylon" with improved performance characteristics.
