How to Install a PVC Slip Coupling?

Published in Plumbing Repair 2 mins read

Installing a PVC slip coupling, also known as a repair coupling, is a relatively simple process used to fix damaged PVC pipes without having to replace a large section. Here's how to do it:

  1. Prepare the Pipe: Carefully cut out the damaged section of the PVC pipe, ensuring the ends are clean and straight. Remove any debris. Clean both ends of the existing pipe where the coupling will be attached, as needed.
  2. Apply Primer: Use PVC primer on both the inside of the slip coupling and the outside of the existing pipe ends that will connect to the coupling. Primer softens the PVC to create a better bond.
  3. Apply Cement: Apply PVC cement over the primed surfaces on the pipe ends and inside the slip coupling.
  4. Slide the Coupling: Slide the slip coupling completely onto one end of the prepared pipe.
  5. Position and Secure: Slide the coupling back to the middle to cover both connection points equally to make the seal. Let cement set for the time recommended on the can.
