How to Measure Pool Table Size?

Published in Pool Table Measurement 2 mins read

To measure pool table size, you measure the play surface, which is the area where the pool balls roll. This measurement is taken from cushion nose to cushion nose.

Understanding Pool Table Measurement

The official size of a pool table is determined by the dimensions of its playing area, not the overall size of the table's frame. The play surface is the rectangular area bounded by the cushions.

According to the reference provided:

  • Measure the Play Surface: Focus exclusively on the part of the table where the balls move.
  • From Cushion Nose to Cushion Nose: Take your measurements from the tip of the cushion on one side directly across to the tip of the cushion on the opposite side.
  • Avoid Measuring: Do not measure underneath the cushions or inside the pockets. The measurement point is where the pool ball would make contact with the cushion.

Essentially, you are measuring the length and width of the inner rectangle defined by the cushion noses. Standard pool table sizes are based on these playing surface dimensions, although the full table size will be larger due to the frame and rails.

By measuring "cushion nose to cushion nose," you accurately capture the functional playing area required for the game.
