How do you add the same animation in PowerPoint?

Published in PowerPoint Animations 3 mins read

You can easily apply the same animation effects from one object to another in PowerPoint using the Animation Painter tool.

Using the Animation Painter Tool

The Animation Painter is a powerful feature in PowerPoint that allows you to quickly copy animations from one object and apply them to another. This saves significant time compared to recreating the animation steps manually.

Here are the steps to use the Animation Painter:

  1. Select the source object: First, click on the object that already has the animation effects you want to copy.
  2. Activate Animation Painter: On the Animations tab of the toolbar ribbon, locate the Advanced Animation group. Click the Animation Painter button. Your cursor will change to a special icon, resembling a paintbrush, indicating the tool is active.
  3. Apply to target object: On the slide, click the object(s) to which you want to copy the animations. The animations from the source object will be applied to the selected target object(s).

Tips for Using Animation Painter

  • Copying to multiple objects: To copy the animations to more than one object, double-click the Animation Painter button in step 2. This locks the tool, allowing you to click on multiple target objects consecutively. Press the Esc key on your keyboard or click the Animation Painter button again to turn it off.
  • Animation order: The Animation Painter copies the animations and their order. If the source object had multiple animations applied (e.g., a Fade In followed by a Spin), the target object will receive both animations in the same sequence.
  • Compatibility: Animation Painter works across different types of objects, including text boxes, shapes, images, and charts.

Example Scenario

Imagine you have a bulleted list where the first bullet point fades in. You want the subsequent bullet points to also fade in using the exact same timing and effect options.

  1. Click the first bullet point (the one with the Fade In animation).
  2. Go to the Animations tab and click Animation Painter.
  3. Click each subsequent bullet point one by one (or double-click the Animation Painter and click them all) to apply the same Fade In animation.

Using the Animation Painter streamlines the process of creating consistent animations throughout your presentation, enhancing visual appeal and saving valuable editing time.
