How Do I Copy the Size of a Picture in PowerPoint?

Published in PowerPoint Tips 2 mins read

The easiest way to copy the size of a picture in PowerPoint is to use the copy and paste function.

Here's a step-by-step guide:

  1. Select the Image: Click on the picture whose size you want to copy.
  2. Copy the Image: Press Ctrl + C (Windows) or Command + C (Mac) to copy the image to your clipboard.
  3. Navigate to the Target Slide: Go to the slide where you want to paste the image.
  4. Paste the Image: Press Ctrl + V (Windows) or Command + V (Mac) to paste the image.

The pasted image should maintain the same size and position as the original image.

Additional Tips:

  • Paste Options: After pasting, a small "Paste Options" icon may appear. Clicking this allows you to choose different pasting methods, though "Keep Source Formatting" is usually the default and best for retaining size.
  • Multiple Images: If you need to apply the same size to multiple images, copy the original image first. Then, repeatedly paste it and replace the content with the desired images by right-clicking on each pasted image, selecting "Change Picture," and choosing a new image. This ensures all the new images will inherit the size and position of the original.
  • Format Painter (Alternative): While copy/paste is generally easier for a direct copy, the Format Painter can be useful if you only want to copy the formatting (including size and other visual attributes) to an existing picture. Select the picture with the desired formatting, click the Format Painter icon (paintbrush icon in the Home tab), and then click on the picture you want to change. Note that this works best when both pictures are already present on the slide.
