Adding a voiceover in Premiere Pro can be done quickly by recording directly into your timeline.
Recording Voiceover Directly
One of the most straightforward ways to add a voice track to your video project is to record it live within Adobe Premiere Pro. This method is ideal if you have a microphone connected and want to record narration or commentary synchronized with your video playback.
Here's the basic process:
- Prepare Your Timeline: Open the sequence where you want to add the voiceover. Ensure you have an empty audio track available, or create a new one specifically for your voice recording.
- Locate Track Controls: Look at the left side of your audio track in the timeline. You'll find various controls there.
- Arm for Recording: Find the microphone icon on the audio track's controls. Clicking this icon typically "arms" the track, preparing it to receive audio input from your selected microphone. You might need to set audio input preferences in Premiere Pro's settings if you have multiple microphones.
- Start Recording: With the track armed, position the timeline playhead where you want your voiceover to begin. There's usually a record button (often the same microphone icon, or a dedicated record button in the Program Monitor or Timeline panel controls) you click to start the recording. Premiere Pro will often provide a countdown before starting.
- Speak Your Voiceover: As the timeline plays, you can say whatever you want to say in your voice over here, speaking into your microphone.
- Stop Recording: When you are finished speaking or reach the end of the desired section, just click that microphone icon again to stop recording.
- Review: After stopping, you can see we have a nice voiceover clip automatically placed on the armed audio track in your timeline. You can then edit, adjust levels, and apply effects to this clip like any other audio file.
This method allows for immediate recording and placement of your narration directly alongside your video, making synchronization easier.
While recording directly is convenient, you can also import pre-recorded audio files (like MP3 or WAV files) that contain your voiceover and drag them onto an audio track in your timeline.
