What is pH on a Pressure Cooker?

Published in Pressure Cooking 2 mins read

pH, when displayed on a pressure cooker, does not refer to the measure of acidity or alkalinity. Instead, on many electric pressure cookers, "PH" indicates that the unit is in the preheating stage.

Understanding the "PH" Display

  • Preheating Indicator: The "PH" display signifies that the pressure cooker is actively heating up to reach the required temperature for the selected cooking function.
  • Transition to Cooking Time: Once the pressure cooker reaches the necessary pressure and temperature, the display will typically switch from "PH" to the preset cooking time countdown.

Example Scenario

Imagine you select the "Soup" function on your electric pressure cooker.

  1. The display will initially show "PH", indicating that the cooker is preheating.
  2. The cooker will heat up and build pressure inside.
  3. When the optimal pressure is achieved, the display will change from "PH" to show the preset cooking time for soup, such as "30:00" (30 minutes).

Therefore, if you see "PH" on your pressure cooker's display, it simply means that the appliance is preheating and is not related to chemical pH levels.
