How do you use a needle pressure gauge?

Published in Pressure Measurement 2 mins read

A needle pressure gauge is used to measure the actual pressure at the nozzle of a blast hose by inserting the needle into the blast hose at a specific angle and location.

Step-by-step guide for using a needle pressure gauge:

  1. Position the Needle: Insert the needle into the blast hose at a 45° angle, approximately six inches (150mm) behind the nozzle holder.

    • Ensure the tip of the needle is pointing toward the nozzle.
  2. Depth of Insertion: Push the needle far enough into the blast hose so that the tip is positioned directly in the center of the air stream.

  3. Read the Gauge: Once the needle is correctly positioned, the gauge will display the actual pressure at the nozzle.

Important Notes:

  • Accuracy: This method provides a more accurate reading of the working pressure at the nozzle, which is crucial for optimizing blasting efficiency.
  • Safety: Always handle the gauge and blast hose with care, ensuring proper safety procedures are followed.

Using a needle pressure gauge correctly allows for precise measurement of nozzle pressure, which is essential for effective abrasive blasting operations.
