A rubber stamp creates a relief print.
In more detail, relief printing is a process where the raised areas of a printing block are inked, and then pressed onto a surface. The ink transfers from the raised areas, creating the print. Rubber stamps function exactly in this way: the raised rubber design is inked, and when pressed onto paper (or another medium), it leaves an inked impression of that design. The areas that are cut away from the rubber stamp do not transfer ink. Therefore, rubber stamps fall under the category of relief prints.
