To send an image to the back in Procreate, you'll need to adjust its layer order within the Layers panel.
Here's how to do it:
-
Open the Layers Panel: Tap the Layers icon in the upper right corner of the Procreate interface. This displays all the layers in your artwork.
-
Locate the Image Layer: Find the layer containing the image you want to send to the back.
-
Drag and Drop: Tap and hold the image layer. Then, drag it below all the other layers you want to appear in front of it. The order in the Layers panel determines the order in which the layers are displayed on the canvas. Lower layers are behind higher layers.
-
Using Object Menu: If the image is already in a group, you can also use the "Send to Back" option if it's available. First select the layer or group in the Layers list or on the canvas. Then, click the Object menu and choose "Send to Back". Note that this may not be available in all situations or may only move it within its current group. You cannot move image layers out of the group they're nested in with the object menu.
Important Considerations:
- Layer Order is Key: Procreate renders layers from the bottom up. A layer at the bottom of the list will be "behind" any layers above it.
- Grouping: If your image layer is within a group, sending it to the back will only move it to the back within that group. To send it fully to the back, you may need to move it out of the group (if that's the issue) or move the entire group to the back.
- Visibility: Ensure the layers you want to be visible are enabled (the checkbox is selected) in the layers panel. If a layer is hidden, you won't see it, regardless of its position in the layer stack.
By managing the layer order, you can effectively control which elements appear in front of or behind others in your Procreate artwork.
