How to Move Group Layers in Procreate?

Published in Procreate Layers 2 mins read

To move a group of layers in Procreate, touch and hold on one layer within the group until it lifts from the Layers panel, then tap on the other layers you want to move along with it.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

  1. Open the Layers Panel: Ensure the Layers panel is open in your Procreate canvas.

  2. Initiate Selection: Touch and hold one of the layers that is part of the group you wish to move. After a brief pause, it will appear to lift slightly from the stack, indicating it's selected.

  3. Add More Layers: While still holding the first selected layer, tap on the other layers within the same group (or even from different groups, if you want to combine them) that you also want to move. Each layer you tap will be added to the selection and will also appear lifted.

  4. Move the Layers: Now that all the desired layers are selected, you can drag any of the lifted layers. All the selected layers will move together. You can drag them:

    • Within the Layers panel to reorder them.
    • Onto another existing group to add them to that group.
    • Out of an existing group to remove them from the group.
    • To another open canvas - touch and hold to pick up a layer or layers, then tap the Gallery button with another finger. Navigate to the canvas you want to add the layers to and release.
  5. Finish Moving: Release your finger to drop the group of layers into their new position.

This method allows you to reorder groups of layers, rearrange the layer stack, or even move layers between different canvases in Procreate.
