How do I turn off opacity in Procreate?

Published in Procreate Tutorials 2 mins read

To effectively "turn off" opacity in Procreate, you need to understand that it's more about setting the opacity to its maximum value (100%) rather than completely eliminating it. Here's how you do it:

  1. Open the Layers Panel: Tap the layers icon in the top right corner of the Procreate interface.

  2. Select the Layer: Tap on the layer you want to adjust.

  3. Access Opacity Controls: Tap on the selected layer again. This will bring up the layer options menu.

  4. Adjust Opacity: You'll see an "N" displayed next to the layer's name (this stands for "Normal" blending mode). Tap the "N" to open the Layer Blend Mode menu. Slide your finger left to right on the layer with the two-finger tap. This will adjust the layer's opacity.

  5. Set to 100%: Slide your finger until the percentage displayed at the top shows 100%. This effectively turns off any transparency on that layer, making it fully opaque.

Essentially, setting the opacity to 100% makes the layer completely visible, which is what most people mean when they ask to "turn off" opacity. There isn't a true "off" switch for opacity in Procreate; it's always a percentage value.
