To bleed a floor radiator (specifically a baseboard radiator), you'll need a bleed key and a container to catch water. Here's how:
Step-by-Step Guide to Bleeding a Floor Radiator
-
Gather Your Supplies: You will need a bleed key (also known as a square socket valve key, often included with your radiator system) and a small container or cup.
-
Locate the Bleed Valve: Find the bleed valve. Note that there may be just one bleeder valve for all the baseboards in a single room.
-
Prepare to Catch Water: Hold your container directly below the bleed valve to prevent water from spilling.
-
Open the Bleed Valve: Insert the bleed key into the valve. Slowly turn the key counterclockwise.
-
Release Air and Water: Air will start to escape, followed by water. Continue until a steady stream of water flows out without any air bubbles.
-
Close the Bleed Valve: Once a steady stream of water is present, close the bleed valve by turning the key clockwise. Don't overtighten.
-
Dispose of Water: Safely discard the water collected in your container.
Important Note: If you have multiple baseboard radiators connected to a single bleed valve, the process remains largely the same.
