How Do I Turn Off AutoCAD Layers in Revit?

Published in Revit CAD Visibility 2 mins read

Turning off specific AutoCAD layers within a linked or imported DWG file in Revit is managed through the Visibility/Graphics Overrides settings for the current view. This process allows you to control the visibility of individual CAD layers without affecting the original DWG file.

To control the visibility of AutoCAD layers in Revit using the steps provided:

  1. Open the desired project view in your Revit model where the linked or imported DWG is visible.
  2. Access the Visibility/Graphics Overrides settings by clicking the View tab, then the Graphics panel, and finally selecting (Visibility/Graphics). Alternatively, you can type VG or VV on your keyboard as a shortcut.
  3. In the Visibility/Graphics dialog box, navigate to the Imported Categories tab. This tab lists all linked and imported files in the project view.
  4. In the Visibility column, find the name of the specific DWG file (either linked or imported) whose layers you want to adjust. Click the plus sign (+) or arrow next to the file name to expand and see the list of its contained AutoCAD layers.
  5. Review the list of layers displayed under the expanded DWG file name. To hide or turn off a layer in the current view, clear the checkbox next to that layer's name.

By following these steps, you can selectively control which AutoCAD layers are visible within that particular Revit view. This is a view-specific setting, meaning the changes you make in one view will not automatically apply to others unless you use view templates or manually apply the same settings.
