Do Tea Roses Like Sun or Shade?

Published in Rose Gardening 1 min read

Tea roses prefer a sunny location. They thrive in environments with ample sunlight.

Tea roses, especially hybrid tea roses, require plenty of sunlight to flourish and produce abundant blooms. While some rose varieties can tolerate partial shade, tea roses perform best when exposed to at least 6 hours of direct sunlight each day.

Ideal Conditions for Tea Roses:

  • Sunlight: At least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily.
  • Shelter: Protection from strong winds, which can damage the delicate blooms and stems.
  • Soil: Well-drained soil to prevent root rot. Tea roses do not thrive in wet conditions.
  • Spacing: Ample space to prevent overcrowding, which can hinder growth and increase the risk of disease.

Planting tea roses in a shaded area or an area where they are crowded by other plants will likely result in poor growth, reduced flowering, and increased susceptibility to pests and diseases. Choose a sunny spot with well-draining soil to maximize the health and beauty of your tea roses.
