How to Air Layer a Rose?

Published in Rose Propagation 1 min read

Air layering a rose is a propagation technique where you encourage roots to grow on a stem while it's still attached to the parent plant, allowing you to create a new, genetically identical rose bush. Here's a simplified approach to air layering a rose:

  1. Prepare the Stem: Select a healthy, vigorous stem that is about 6 inches behind the growing tip. This is the section you'll air layer. Remove any side shoots and leaves in a 3-4 inch section of this chosen stem, leaving only bare stem. Make sure you keep the foliage both above and below this section.
