How to do makeup in school?

Published in School Makeup Guide 4 mins read

Achieving a simple, natural makeup look for school is straightforward and can help enhance your features without being distracting. Here’s how to do it, step-by-step, focusing on a subtle approach suitable for a school environment.

Before applying any makeup, ensure your skin is prepped. This is a crucial first step for smooth application and a fresh look throughout the day.

Prepping Your Skin

The foundation of any good makeup look is well-prepared skin.

1. Wash and moisturize your face.

Start with a clean canvas. Wash your face with a gentle cleanser to remove dirt and oil. Follow up with a light moisturizer suitable for your skin type. Hydrated skin makes makeup application smoother and helps it last longer. Consider using a moisturizer with SPF for sun protection.

Building Your School Makeup Look

Keep the products lightweight and the application minimal for a natural finish.

2. Consider foundation or a tinted moisturizer.

For school, less is often more. A tinted moisturizer provides light coverage and hydration. If you prefer more coverage or need to even out skin tone, use a lightweight foundation or BB cream. Apply a thin layer and blend well, focusing only on areas that need it.

3. Put on concealer.

Use concealer sparingly to target specific areas like under-eye circles or blemishes. Choose a shade that matches your skin tone or is slightly lighter for under the eyes. Apply it with your finger or a small brush and gently tap to blend the edges.

4. Apply blush and bronzer.

Add a touch of color to bring life to your face.

  • Blush: Apply a cream or powder blush on the apples of your cheeks and blend upwards towards your temples. A natural-looking pink or peach shade works well.
  • Bronzer: If desired, use a matte bronzer lightly on areas where the sun naturally hits your face (forehead, cheekbones, jawline) for a subtle warmth.

5. Use eyeshadow.

For school, aim for neutral or natural tones.

  • Apply a light, neutral shade (like a cream, beige, or light brown) across your eyelid.
  • You can add a slightly darker neutral shade in the crease for definition, but keep it soft and blended.
  • Avoid glitter or highly pigmented shadows for a daytime school look.

6. Put on eyeliner.

Keep eyeliner simple for school.

  • A thin line along the upper lash line is usually sufficient.
  • You can use a brown or black pencil or liquid liner.
  • Alternatively, a dark brown or black eyeshadow applied with an angled brush can give a softer line. Skip liner on the lower lash line for a more open, natural look.

7. Curl your eyelashes.

Curling your eyelashes instantly makes your eyes look more open and awake, even before mascara. Use an eyelash curler at the base of your lashes, gently press for a few seconds, and repeat if necessary.

8. Get the mascara.

Finish your eye makeup with mascara. Apply one or two coats to your upper lashes to add volume and length. Use black or brown mascara depending on your preference and natural lash color. Avoid clumping by wiggling the wand at the base of your lashes and pulling through. You can apply a very light coat to the lower lashes if desired, but sometimes skipping this keeps the look softer.

Remember to blend all products well for a seamless finish. A simple lip balm or a nude/pink lip shade can complete your school-appropriate makeup look.
