How Do I Print Screen from the Main Screen?

Published in Screenshots 1 min read

To take a screenshot of only your active main screen (and not extended monitors, if applicable), follow these steps:

  1. Press CTRL + ALT + PrtScn (Print Screen) on your keyboard. This copies an image of your current main display to the clipboard.

  2. Open an application where you can paste images. Common examples include:

    • Microsoft Word
    • Paint
    • Email clients (like Gmail or Outlook)
    • Image editing software (like Photoshop or GIMP)
  3. Paste the screenshot. Use the keyboard shortcut CTRL + V or right-click and select "Paste" from the context menu. The screenshot should now appear in the application.

  4. Save the screenshot (optional). If you want to save the screenshot as a file, use the "Save" or "Save As" option within the application you pasted it into. Choose a file format (such as JPG, PNG, or GIF) and select a location on your computer to save the file.
