You can select the inverse in Vectorworks using the Invert Selection command.
Using the Invert Selection Command
The Invert Selection command is a quick and efficient way to change your selection in Vectorworks. Instead of manually selecting or deselecting objects, this command allows you to flip your current selection: all selected items are deselected, and all previously unselected, visible, and editable items are then selected.
How it Works
- Initial Selection: You start by selecting the objects you want to work with.
- Invert Selection: When you execute the command by going to Edit > Invert Selection, Vectorworks automatically deselects all the initially selected objects.
- New Selection: At the same time, it selects all the visible and editable objects in your drawing that were not part of your original selection.
Practical Application
Let's say you need to modify everything in a drawing except for a few specific items. Instead of selecting all the numerous elements manually, you can follow these steps:
- Select the specific items you don't want to modify.
- Go to Edit > Invert Selection.
- All other elements in the drawing will now be selected, ready for modification.
Example
Action | Selected Objects | Unselected Objects |
---|---|---|
Initially Select a few items | Items A, B, C | All other visible/editable objects |
Execute Invert Selection Command | None | Items A, B, C are deselected, all other visible/editable objects are selected |
This feature saves time and reduces the risk of missing any objects, especially in complex drawings.
