How Do You Play a Sequence Dead Card?

Published in Sequence Game Strategy 2 mins read

When playing Sequence, a "dead" card is a card in your hand that cannot be played because all corresponding spaces on the game board are already occupied. Here's how to handle it:

  1. Recognize a Dead Card: Identify a card in your hand for which there are no open spaces on the Sequence game board. This means all instances of that card's image are already covered by a Sequence chip.

  2. Discard the Dead Card: On your turn, instead of playing a card as usual, you can discard the dead card.

  3. Draw a Replacement Card: Immediately after discarding the dead card, draw a new card from the draw pile.

  4. Continue Your Turn (if applicable): With your new card, you can now proceed to play a card (if possible) and place a chip on the board as you normally would on your turn. If, by terrible luck, the drawn card is also dead, you cannot discard it during the same turn. You'll have to wait for your next turn.

In summary, playing a dead card in Sequence involves discarding it and drawing a replacement before proceeding with your turn.
