How to Use a Magic Seam Marker?

Published in Sewing Tools 1 min read

A magic seam marker is used to accurately mark seam allowances, typically ¼ inch, around templates before cutting fabric. Here's how to use it:

  1. Position the Template: Place your template on the fabric you want to cut.

  2. Run the Marker Along the Edge: Hold the magic seam marker so the marking tip is against the edge of your template.

  3. Mark the Seam Allowance: Carefully run the marker along the entire perimeter of the template. This will create a line marking the desired seam allowance (commonly ¼ inch) all the way around.

  4. Remove the Template: Take away the template. You should now have a marked line indicating where you will cut your fabric.

  5. Cut Along the Outer Edge: Cut the fabric along the outside of the marked line. This leaves you with the template shape plus the seam allowance.

In Summary: The magic seam marker simplifies marking accurate and consistent seam allowances, making sewing and quilting projects easier and more precise.
