How to see entity info in SketchUp?

Published in SketchUp Entity Info 2 mins read

You can easily see detailed information about any object or element in your SketchUp model using the Entity Info panel.

Accessing Entity Information

Viewing entity information involves two main steps: selecting the item and opening the dedicated panel.

  1. Select the Entity:

    • Use the Select tool (Select Tool Icon) to click on one or more entities (such as edges, faces, groups, or components) in your model.
  2. Open the Entity Info Panel:

    • The way to access the Entity Info panel differs slightly depending on whether you are using SketchUp on Windows or Mac.
      • On Windows:
        • Look for the Default Tray, usually located on the right side of the SketchUp window. If the tray is visible, find "Entity Info" in the list and click the right-pointing arrow next to it to expand the section.
        • If the Default Tray is hidden, go to the SketchUp menu bar and select Window > Default Tray. From the submenu that appears, make sure that Entity Info is checked to make the panel visible in the tray.
      • On Mac:
        • Go to the SketchUp menu bar and select Window > Entity Info. This will open the panel as a floating window.

Once the Entity Info panel is open and you have an entity selected, its specific details will be displayed there, providing insights like its type, layer, volume, area, or component definition name.
