You toggle visibility in SketchUp, specifically for layers, by clicking the Eye icon next to the layer name in the Layers panel.
Managing Visibility with Layers
In SketchUp, controlling the visibility of different parts of your model is commonly done using Layers (often called Tags in newer versions, but the concept and method are similar). Layers allow you to organize your geometry and easily show or hide specific categories of objects.
Toggling Layer Visibility
The primary method for toggling the visibility of a layer is directly within the Layers panel or dialog box.
- Locate the layer whose visibility you want to change.
- The Eye icon ( ) next to a layer name indicates that the layer is visible.
- To change the layer's visibility state, you simply click this icon.
- Click the Eye icon to toggle the layer's visibility. Clicking it when the layer is visible will hide it, and clicking it again when hidden will make it visible.
This provides a quick way to show or hide entire sets of objects assigned to a particular layer, making it easier to work on complex models by reducing visual clutter.
Navigating the Layer List
If your SketchUp model has many layers, you may need to navigate through the list to find the specific layer you need.
- To navigate through the list of layers, click the up or down arrow on the right side of the list.
- Alternatively, you can use the trackpad on your device to scroll through the list of layer names.
Once you find the desired layer, you can then use the Eye icon next to its name to toggle its visibility.
