Hiding and unhiding groups (or any geometry) in SketchUp can be done in a few different ways, offering flexibility in managing your model's visibility.
Hiding Groups
- Select the Group: First, use the select tool to choose the group you want to hide.
- Hide the Group: Right-click on the selected group.
- Choose Hide: From the context menu, select the "Hide" option. The group will disappear from view.
Unhiding Groups
There are a couple of methods to unhide groups, depending on your needs:
-
Unhide All: This method unhides all hidden geometry in your model.
- Go to Edit > Unhide > All.
-
Unhide Selected: This allows for more precise unhiding.
- Go to View > Hidden Geometry. This will display all hidden geometry in a dashed line style.
- Select the Group: With the Hidden Geometry view enabled, select the dashed-line representation of the group you want to unhide.
- Unhide: Right-click on the selected (dashed) group.
- Choose Unhide: From the context menu, select "Unhide". The group will reappear.
- You can also choose Edit > Unhide > Selected
Tips and Considerations:
- Hidden Geometry Visibility: Remember to toggle "Hidden Geometry" (View > Hidden Geometry) on and off as needed. When it's on, you'll see all hidden objects, which can be useful for managing them, but also visually clutter your model.
- Hiding vs. Deleting: Hiding geometry only makes it invisible; it's still part of your model. Deleting geometry removes it entirely.
- Layers: Using layers is another effective way to control visibility, especially for complex models. You can assign groups to different layers and then hide or unhide entire layers at once.
