How Do You Set Radius in SketchUp?

Published in SketchUp Radius Settings 2 mins read

To set the radius for a circle in SketchUp, you can either visually determine the size by moving your cursor or precisely enter a specific value using the keyboard.

Methods for Setting Circle Radius in SketchUp

After selecting the Circle tool and defining the center point, you have two primary ways to set the radius:

Method 1: Visual Setting

This is the default and most intuitive method:

  1. After clicking to set the center point for your circle, move the cursor away from the center point. As you move the cursor, you will see the circle's circumference expand or contract.
  2. Click again to set the circle's size. The distance from the center point to where you clicked determines the radius.

Method 2: Typing a Value

For precise control over the circle's size, you can type a value:

  1. After clicking to set the center point, start moving the cursor away (you don't need to click a second time immediately).

  2. Type a radius or diameter value in a unit of measure. SketchUp's Measurements box (usually in the lower-right corner) will display the value as you type.

    • To set a radius: Simply type the numerical value followed by the desired unit (e.g., inches " or feet '). For example, for a 5-inch radius, type 5“.
    • To set a diameter: Type the numerical value, the unit, and then 'd'. For example, for a 5-inch diameter, type 5” d.
  3. Press Enter to confirm the value and create the circle with the specified radius or diameter.

Using the typing method allows you to create circles of exact dimensions required for your model.
