The dermis is the thickest layer of the skin. Located beneath the epidermis, the dermis is responsible for providing structural support, containing blood vessels, nerves, and glands. It also plays a role in temperature regulation and wound healing.
While the epidermis is the outermost layer, it is considerably thinner than the dermis. The dermis varies in thickness throughout the body, ranging from about 1.5 mm to 4 mm, depending on the location.
